Here it is, the dreaded stage of the cobblestones in this Tour de France 2022, Wednesday July 6. For this fifth meeting, the peloton will have to adapt: eleven cobbled sections are, in all, on the program for this short (157 kilometres) but rugged stage between Lille and Arenberg Porte du Hainaut. There has already been breakage and not the least. The yellow jersey Wout van Aert crashed even before the first cobbled section and had to whip before he could get back into the peloton. Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies), already victorious in Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders, also fell.
Sparkling on Tuesday, will Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) still have enough strength despite his fall? Watch out for his rival Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck), relatively discreet since the start of the Tour but very comfortable on the cobblestones and double winner of the Ronde. Florian Senechal (Quickstep), regional stage, could also make the trunk. Without forgetting, of course, the favorites in the general, Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) and Tadej Pogacar (UAE).
